Basics Of Drawing

This will be a relaxing and enjoyable workshop with individual advice and support to establish some basic drawing techniques and skills for you to build upon in the future.

We will look at all aspects of mark making using pencil and charcoal. Drawing with just line or creating shading and tone, you will learn some basic techniques that will enable you to develop your drawing skill.

We will be using a still life to draw from, so no need to use photographic references.

This one day workshop is suitable for beginners or those of you who are returning to drawing after a break.

Tutor will provide all materials for this workshop.  This cost is included in your course fee.

A picnic lunch will be provided.

Landscapes and Seascapes in Enamels

Create a Landscape or Seascape in Enamels on a Copper Blank.

Through the use of different enamelling techniques, you will have the opportunity to create your own picture of a favourite landscape, seascape or even a cityscape. Images and stencils will be provided but you may wish to bring your own ideas for inspiration.

There will be an opportunity to use clear fluxes, transparent and opaque powdered enamels to build up your picture.  You will also be shown how to add additional features to your work through the use of sgraffito (scratching into the enamel), seed beads and millefiori wafers. 

Your tutor will guide you through each stage of the process during the workshop and you will take home your enamelled picture at the end of the day.

Tutor will provide all materials for this workshop. This cost is included in your course fee.

The workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience of enamelling..

A light lunch will be provided.

Flowers In Glass

Create a beautiful glass panel which incorporates your favourite flowers.

Bring along a small selection of dried flowers and learn how to press and sandwich these between layers of glass.

Add coloured glass as a surround. Use copper foil and solder to secure in place to form a beautiful glass hanging to take home.

Size of finished panel will be approx. 17cms x 19cms.

Tutor will supply most materials. This cost is included in your course fee.

Students are asked to bring along their own choice of dried flowers as fresh flowers will cause mould in the glass.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers.

Copper Foiled Glass Hanging

Learn how to cut glass, foil and solder in this fun half day workshop.

Make an item of your choice such as a glass heart, bumble bee, dragonfly, leaf or maybe a light catcher or a moon. The possibilities are endless!

Students are encouraged to bring along ideas for potential designs but your tutor will supply ideas if you feel unsure.

Learn the traditional techniques of cutting glass, copper foiling and soldering to make your wonderful creations.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers

Silver Clay Jewellery

An introduction to the amazing qualities of silver clay.

Learn how to design and create one or two pieces of unique silver jewellery.

Choose from a selection of items, maybe a ring, a pendant or a pair of earrings, creating each piece to your own design and specifications. Lots of samples will be available for inspiration.

You will learn how to prepare and handle your silver clay, discovering the versatility of this medium through rolling, texturing and cutting techniques.

You will be shown how to combine both clay and fireable stones, how to prepare your pieces for firing and how to professionally finish your work to a high standard.

Perfect gifts for family and friends!

Your tutor will provide you with enough silver clay to make one item ( or one pair of earrings) of jewellery. This cost is included in your course fee. If you wish to make more than one item, extra silver clay may be purchased from your tutor on the day.

If you wish to use fireable stones in your design this will be an extra cost which, depending on the amount used, can be discussed with your tutor.

If you wish to have a trace chain or ear wires for your jewellery, an extra fee of approx £8, will be payable to the tutor on the day.

Introduction To Silver Clay – Calla Lily

Discover the amazing qualities of silver clay. During this half day workshop you will make a silver Calla Lily necklace with textured leaf, ready to wear. You will learn a variety of techniques including rolling, texturing and shaping on the mould. After firing you will burnish your work, add your beads to a headpin, and finally add your chain.

There is a cost included in your course fee for enough silver clay to enable you to make one calla lily pendant.

There will be a charge of approximately £8 ( depending on chain size) per student for your chain, beads and a headpin pack. This is payable to your tutor on the day.

Silver Clay Leaves

This half day workshop is designed to introduce you to the amazing qualities of silver clay.

You will create stunning silver jewellery from a real leaf through the processes of pasting, sanding and firing. By adding antiquing colour and polishing, transform your leaves into a beautiful, real silver necklace or earrings that you can take home with you.

You will be provided with enough silver clay to make one leaf necklace or one pair of earrings This cost is included in your course fee. If time allows and you wish to make any further items, there will be an extra cost which will be payable to your tutor on the day.

If you wish to have a trace chain or ear wires for your jewellery, an extra fee of approx £8, will be payable to the Tutor on the day.

Colour Mixing and Understanding Colour

This workshop is concerned not so much with the theory of colour but rather the practice of how to combine pigments to obtain the colours, tints, shades and tones you wish to apply to your painting. Even so, a good working knowledge and understanding of the colour wheel will make colour mixing a lot easier . It is hoped by the end of the workshop, you will have a grasp of the difference between primary, secondary and tertiary colours and an understanding of how to create tints, shades and  tones of colour.

Students will be given a short list of materials and equipment to bring along to the workshop.  Your tutor will have a small selection of acrylic paints and brushes available for use on the day.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and those who need a deeper understanding of colour and colour mixing to support their artistic endeavours.

A light lunch will be provided.

Stained Glass Panel – 2 Day Course

Design and make a beautiful arched or flat topped stained glass panel using coloured glass, lead cames, solder and leaded light cement.

Learn all the skills required to make a unique panel and take it home with you at the end of this two day course. Students are encouraged to bring along ideas for their own panel design but your tutor can provide these for those students who are unsure.

Panel dimensions are approx 20cms x 30cms.

Glass experience is preferred for this workshop.

Silver Etruscan Chain Bracelet

Learn the beautiful and ancient technique of Etruscan silver chain making and make a simple bracelet complete with a silver hand made or ready made toggle clasp. Start by learning how to make links with copper wire to practise your weave and then move on to silver wire to make your bracelet. Finish by adding your chosen fastening.

There is a materials cost of £20 included in your course fee which will enable you to make one silver bracelet
