Wood Carved Christmas Decorations

Spend a day honing your woodcarving skills by making some wooden Christmas decorations. You will be shown how to shape and carve your wooden pieces, smooth and finish them ready for painting, hanging at home or gifting to someone else.

You will learn the basic principles of woodcarving and good working practice and will also have a good idea what equipment you might need to purchase if you want to continue carving at home.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced wood carvers.

Make a Flag Book

Spend a day exploring the world of book arts. You will make a flag book, essentially a concertina style structure, for displaying 18 small images.  We will also use inks, paints, stamps and/or collage materials to make our own covers and end-papers. 

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced paper artists.

Winter Warmer

Spend a morning creating a unique polar fleece scarf decorated in your own choice of colours and motifs. The 'sublimation' method of application of the dye to the fabric allows an exciting range of effects, building layers of vibrant colour and pattern onto the soft fabric. Go home with your own scarf, suitable as a treat for yourself or a gift.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced dyers.

Needle Felted Penguin

Make a charming little penguin to hang in your Christmas tree, using the simple technique of needle felting. This is a fun, half day workshop and no prior skill is required – just work with natural fleece and a special needle and off you go.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced needle felters who want a fun afternoon.

A Mighty Oak

Join us for a day of fun with textiles. This workshop is inspired by lone trees in the landscape, originally the Sycamore Gap tree. This is a lovely little project it has a nice collection of techniques....

Soft Sewn Binding Leather Notebook

We will be making a dinky pocket sized soft leather notebook with a marble paper lined wrap around cover and elastic fastener, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's notebook displayed in the Victoria and Albert museum.

We will learn how to sew a long stitch binding leaving us with a lovely exposed stitching along the spine. This is sometimes called a limp binding and was very popular in medieval times as a quicker way to bind papers together.

You will be able to choose from leather scraps, hand made marble off cuts and coloured linen thread and elastics to truly make it your personal creation.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to improve their bookbinding skills.

Willow Robins and Wreaths

Join us for a full day of creative willow weaving, perfect for beginners or those with a little weaving experience. Under gentle guidance and expert tuition, you'll learn traditional and playful techniques while making two beautiful, seasonal pieces to take home.

Create a Jolly Willow Robin Using random (or "scribble") weaving, you'll shape and sculpt a charming little robin, complete with wings, tail, and beak, mounted on a natural log slice – a delightful festive decoration for your home.

Weave a Traditional Willow Wreath Learn how to form and finish a classic willow wreath, ready to adorn your door, wall, or garden gate. Keep it simple and natural, or decorate it at home with foliage, ribbon or seasonal touches.

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, relaxed, fun and hands-on, giving you the chance to develop basic willow sculpture skills while enjoying the satisfying rhythm of weaving. You'll leave with two unique creations, a new set of skills and plenty of inspiration to carry on weaving.

Festive Berry Basket

This workshop is a wonderful introduction to basketmaking. You will make one traditional stake and strand basket using several varieties of coloured and stripped willow, decorated with a band of festive foraged natural materials.

Learn the principles of stake and strand basketmaking, making bases, inserting side stakes, 3 rod whale, a trac border and inserting a handle. Your lovely little basket will be perfect for berry or egg collecting or as part of your festive household
decorations.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to improve their basket skills. Please note that you need a certain amount of hand strength to work with willow.
